Functional Capacity Evaluations

WorkWell Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is an evidence-based standardized protocol that is legally defensible.  In addition to the FCE we also offer a work injury prevention program including PreWork Screening.

COMPREHENSIVE CONTINUUM

The Functional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) is a solid, proven method for performing FCEs, for designing a work- related rehabilitation program to facilitate return to work, and for developing prework screens which are compliant with ADA, OSHA, EEOC and other non-discriminatory laws.

FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION (FCE V.2):
We recently enhanced the WorkWell FCE. Our International FCE Task Force comprised of clinicians and researchers, developed FCE V.2 using the most current research, evidence and clinical rationale.  WS FCE includes:

Kinesiophysical approach based on objective scoring criteria.

Therapists have the ability to perform job matching by adding job related/job specific tests as needed to any test format.

Only PTs perform the WorkWell FCE, relying on the therapist’s background in kinesiology, physiology, anatomy and pathology.

We begin the FCE with a physical exam and link the findings of the physical exam with each activity.  We identify "why" the worker is unable to continue an activity.  This is important when considering return to work options.

The WorkWell FCE uses an integrated consistency checklist, which compares findings from the physical exam to individual activities, performance between test items, the worker’s perception of abilities to actual performance, and activities using similar muscle groups and positions with each other.  These comparisons identify whether full effort was given and if there was consistency.  Therefore, the FCE will identify whether the findings are consistent and representative of the individual’s maximum safe abilities.

The WorkWell FCE identifies what the worker is able to do compared to the required job demands.   Most FCEs place the worker in a category of work, which is not all that helpful.  The WorkWell FCE summary report will provide an accurate statement related to the individual’s ability to return to a specific job.  This is very helpful to physicians when releasing workers to work.
